Community Hospice (formerly known as Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll Counties) is in the planning stages of a new fund raising event to be held at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday evening September 25th. Titled “Taste of Heaven” the event will include a scavenger hunt through the Hall of Fame, Hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, a live auction conducted by auctioneer Rodney Dimmerling, entertainment by vocalist Jerome James and instrumental music by Steve Dallas. The event derives its name from the nine local establishments who will be providing a “taste” of their best dessert in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Event Tent. Included among those providing desserts are Gold Ribbon Gourmet, Drummond Chocolates, Jackson Hole, Ahhh Nuts, Culinary Arts of Hoover High School, Grinders Above and Beyond and Litty’s Cakes and Cookies.

Major sponsors of the event include Shearer’s Foods Inc., Massillon Cable TV, Inc. and Tri-County Hematology and Oncology Associates. Table sponsors include Midwestern Industries, Morning Star Hematology and Oncology Associates, Inc., Steve and Terri Pollock; Lundren, Goldthrope and Zumba; and Union Hospital. Tickets to the event are now available at $50.00 per person and can be purchased at all three Community Hospice county based offices. The Stark County office is located at 3611 Whipple Avenue NW (330) 493-0126 or call (330) 343-7605 for further information.

Volunteer training

The Friends of the Homeless continues to serve the poor and homeless in our county. We appreciate the support this county has given to us for nearly four years. We couldn’t do it without all the food and money donations and the faithful volunteers who have worked alongside the Board and staff.

We have a few slots open for volunteers to fill at our front desk. We need some help on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. If you have been through the shelter’s volunteer training in the past and would like to get on the schedule, please call John Kelly at 330-602-6100 x.102.

If you would like to become a shelter volunteer, we have a monthly volunteer training which we ask you to attend. The training schedule is listed below. If you plan to attend one of these sessions, please call Barb Wallis at 330-602-6100 x.101 a couple days ahead to RSVP. Training sessions last about 2 1/2 hours.

September 11th 9-11am
